PhD in Image Analysis, IMT PhD Programs 2013 - Potentially several positions available
We are looking for talented PhD Students (DEADLINE is July 17th 2013) to pursue their graduate career at IMT Institute for Advanced Studies Lucca in Computer Science and Engineering. IMT is active in the areas of computer science, control and optimization, and image analysis. As part of the IMT PhD Programs 2013 recruitment of PhD students, we invite applications for interested PhD students in the curriculum of Image Analysis of the CDSS track.
We welcome applicants from a variety of backgrounds that satisfy formal criteria and are interested in pursuing their PhD in any aspect of image analysis, such as computer vision problems (segmentation and registration), image restoration, and data mining. They will join a rapidly growing and interdisciplinary group that collaborates with a variety of laboratories across the world to develop new methods for image analysis based on machine learning and the discovery of patterns in multidimensional datasets arising in imaging problems in natural and life sciences (e.g., Cardiac MRI). For their thesis, the students will have access to a large collection of datasets from a variety of biomedical imaging domains. In addition, students will have the opportunity to visit for a period abroad the collaborating laboratories when pursuing their dissertation.
Overall, students should have a good mathematical and programming background and excellent communication skills (in English). Students should demonstrate enthusiasm for performing applied research in an interdisciplinary Research Unit.
In total 36 scholarships will be awarded across all IMT disciplines. The absolute number of funded positions awarded to the curriculum on Image Analysis depends on the quality of the candidates.
The location of our institution (IMT) is in Lucca, in the heart of Tuscany, Italy. IMT offers an excellent PhD program with great benefits and competitive stipend (if awarded scholarship or paid by research grant). All students eat at the school cafeteria for free and highly qualified students stay for free at the school dorms. All teaching is in English. Pattern Recognition and Machine Learning Applied to Image Analysis - 1 Post Doctoral Fellow Position
We invite applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the area of pattern recognition and image analysis. Candidates with a Ph.D. in electrical or biomedical engineering, computer science, imaging, or equivalent are preferable.
We are specifically interested in the development of new data-driven computational methods for analysis of biomedical images. The fellow will have access to a large collection of datasets from a variety of biomedical imaging domains. The candidate will join a rapidly growing and interdisciplinary group that collaborates with a variety of laboratories across the world to develop new methods for image analysis (segmentation and detection) and the discovery of patterns in multidimensional datasets arising in imaging problems in natural and life sciences. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in image processing and analysis, in pattern recognition and machine learning and have a strong interest in bridging the gap to the medical/biological/natural sciences. The ideal candidate should have excellent programming skills and a strong mathematical background. Experience in applying such techniques in (bio) medical imaging applications (for example cardiac or brain imaging, cell imaging) will be considered a plus. Candidates must have an excellent record of high-impact international publications and excellent communication skills. Candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm for performing applied research in an interdisciplinary Research Unit.
The fellow is expected to focus mostly on research and mentoring Ph.D. students. Limited participation in teaching of graduate courses may be requested.
